Gatlinged Griffon in Afstan

It now appears that at least one CH-146 there has been Gatlinged. Photos from Air Force image gallery:

Lots more Griffon photos here.

Babbler's Update: Interestingly enough, I discovered today that the program to obtain these weapons is entitled the "M134 Interim Escort Weapon."

"Interim" implies they'll be replaced with something - which leads to three questions: what will they be replaced with (M3 - .50 cal?), how long is "interim" (when will they get replaced), and what will we do with the Dillons once they get replaced?

I'm currently trying to get answers to those questions. In the meantime, BZ to Combat Camera for the ultra-cool pics, and to Mark for finding and posting them.

Babbling: I hate to admit it but one of the photos was actually in the print edition of today's Globe and Mail, with credit to Combat Camera, which led me...

Put them on the Reserve Force G-Wagens, drive them around town, and watch recruitment go through the roof. :)

A (slightly) more serious comment: Note the Jack Skellington mask on the top photo, and the Canadiens decal on the bottom one. Awesome.

They could be leased?

Perhaps the 'interim' refers to the Griffons themselves. Maybe the DND is expecting their escort role to be taken over by American gunships later this year. Or maybe we're planning on getting our own gunships (yeah right; but a man can dream, can't he?).
