CH-47F Chinook purchase to be dropped?

In December 2008 it was reported that the proposed purchase would go to Cabinet in January 2009. It's now February. And now there is speculation that the acquisition of the CH-47Fs will simply be abandoned, largely for budgetary reasons--after having been in the works for some two and a half years! If that does in fact happen, this spectre will have become corporeal; what then might be next shoe to drop with a resounding thud?

The Conservative government's January 2009 budget

As far as I can see the words "defence" and "Canadian Forces" do not appear in the budget...

"Internal rumblings"

Well there always was and will be "Internal rumblings" @ The Brick Brain sur Rideau.

I thinking it was a slow day for real news so we get a little story about the internal gossip.

How amazingly frustrating.

Just when things like the Chinooks and the Joint Support Ships and replacements for the Sea Kings seem so close--well, at least the first two seemed close.

I think the lack of long-term planning in our system of gov't means that the soldier is getting the shaft from governments of varying political stripes.

Perhaps some CF members and veterans should write the minister and/or the PMO to explain their concerns about these rumours.
