Not loving the DWAN right now

From an e-mail:

...the DND firewall has now completely blocked all blogspot sites...there doesn't seem to be a simply solution (aside from getting a workstation that is not linked to our network).

[from the techs, sent to my correspondent]

"...the system restricts access to sites that are considered to be included in the following categories: Anarchy, Criminal Skills, Drugs, Hate & Discrimination, Games, Pornography, and Obscene & Tasteless.

Unfortunately, due to a lack of controls on blog entries and personal postings on sites such as blogspot.com, it is possible for DWAN users to access the entire range of those categories. For this reason, we cannot unblock blogspot.com or similar sites."

Somebody responsible for access policy and mechanics at DND needs to remove cranium from rectum and figure this out. According to our Sitemeter stats, we get visitors daily from the Canadian House of Commons, from CIDA and DFAIT, from every major news organization in the country, from defence contractors like Boeing, L-3, and Lockheed Martin, from defence think-tanks and universities, from PR firms and lobbyists, from NATO HQ in Europe, and tellingly, from .mil computers at the Pentagon, NORAD, CENTCOM, and elsewhere across the U.S. military establishment.

If the American armed forces - who have only a passing interest at best in Canadian military matters - can allow its people to access The Torch, why the hell can't the CF?

Maybe cyber HQ doesn't like quality critiques?

There's that human rights commission aspect about which, thanks to such as Prof. Attaran, the CF have to be very careful.
