Afstan: M. Dion's dangerous delusions

Two columns that sum things up nicely:
Dion out of this world on foreign affairs

Dion's view on Afghanistan dangerously flawed
Then there's this column in the Toronto Star by Haroon Siddiqui:
Come clean on why we are in Afghanistan
Despite the combative tone (the Martin government also takes fire) he actually asks some good questions, questions around which the Conservative government has danced since taking office. He concludes:
...staying there without an honest appraisal and a coherent strategy is to let our soldiers die in vain.
I think training up the Afghan security forces is in fact a "coherent strategy". But how long will it take and how successful will it be? Those questions cannot be answered at this time.
