Canadians and the The Afghan School Project
From the "Comments" at this post of Paul's at Celestial Junk, something worthwhile:
...
I served in 2007, and am proud to have contributed to the effort in Afghanistan.
Pulling out in 2011 is simply a partisan play, the year is meaningless as it isn't backed by any concrete results. If you want to draw a line in the sand, try 2015, when the first trache of the 5 million children who started going to school in 2005 start graduating. Once a large enough number of educated people start operating in Afghan society, then we will see real changes.
I am thinking long and hard about how to continue contributing towards that change, supporting the Afghan School Project is one way (http://www.theafghanschool.org/), I urge all your readers to support that initiative.
On behalf of the students supported by Afghan School Project, I'd like to thank Thucydides for his vote of confidence. I'd encourage everyone to read some of the success stories in the Comments section of the Afghan School Project (www.theafghanschool.org), where our students share some of their experiences with helping to create a peaceful and prosperous Afghanistan.
One of the great untold stories of Afghanistan are the many successful community-lead development projects that are emerging as the result of Canadian involvement in Kandahar. Canadians should be proud of what we've accomplished - and of our contribution to the international community.
