More Political Selling = More Public Support?

Regardless of who you believe regarding the Canadian public's support for the mission in Afghanistan, would more people support finishing the job (or at least doing more of it before we go) if more politicians were out there explaining why we're there?

Some say yes.

So ... why are we there? The Sovs tied up all the gas. The pipeline has no reason now.

Why are we in Afghanistan? As a student of military history I would like to know.

PenGun: I have no idea as to your military history depth, but you certainly are no student of Central Asian pipelines. Do see these posts:

"Natural gas, pipelines, and the great game"

"Afstan, oil (?!?) and the Globe and Mail"

Interesting. So we _are_ there to secure resources for the good ol USA?

The Russians have tied up all the gas from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. This is most of the available gas. The US wanted control but it's gone.

The Iran India deal is not at all dependent on Afghanistan.

So why are good Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan? My family is Canadian army from way back. I would like to know.
