In defence of medal collectors & dealers

The money quote from the end of the article:

Much of our military history would have been irrevocably lost without medal dealers and collectors. They have saved thousands of medals from being discarded, traced their provenance and carefully safeguarded them.

Rather than criticize or try to stop those who deal in medals, we should be thanking them for continuing to preserve this important part of our military history.

Tell you what: when the dealers and collectors start putting these symbols of our military history on display where ordinary Canadians can see them, that's when I'll thank them.

well then come to gun and military shows, re-enactor events, historical gun shoots, private volunteers run museums and education initiatives. A lot of people work hard with little support or credit. I agree that regimental museums are generally poorly administered and like Archives and other museums are black holes were history grows mold in the dark. I'll spend this weekend at Fort Rodd Hill in Victoria along with dozens of other volunteers bringing Canada's military history to the public. No public funds all volunteer. There are so many people struggling with so little support to bring Canada military heritage to the fore.
Your view of collectors and other enthusiasts is simply wrong for the majority of us.
