Just what the Admiral ordered?
It's interesting to note the informed commentary available from prior to the A/OPS announcement. It centres around the rumour that the CF was seriously considering the Norwegian Svalbard class, a rumour that proved too good to be true.
The commentary subsequent to the original Broadsides article raises quite a number of concerns, and is well worth the read.
Update: DND now has a backgrounder up, which looks an awful lot like what the PM has up on his page. I must say I'm uncomfortable with how much this announcement has been politicized - these aren't Conservative ships or Harper's ships, they're Canadian ships. By tying them so tightly to the current ruling party, we run the risk of having them seen as a pet project rather than a non-partisan capital equipment requirement of the CF.

I'm with you on the politicization thing, but that's a hallmark of this "New" government. Every damn thing is tied to them in a way that practically screams "cancel me when we're out of office and you'll get a free ride since this is "our" project"
