Spinning Kandahar: It won't be an "operation"

It'll be a process, called "Hamkari Baraye Kandahar" (Cooperation for Kandahar). From the first link:

Most of the troops will stay in rural areas trying to cut off access routes into the city while a 3,500-strong U.S. army brigade will aim to push into Kandahar city, accompanied by almost 7,000 Afghan police...

I imagine that will be the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division. That Afghan police figure seems pretty high to me (more here on current work with Afghan police in the city, and here on the ANA's, er, leading operations).
