Amazing facts: The CF vs. the US Coast Guard

Further to this post,
"Defence Budget 2010/11"/Fun with figures Update
the USCG alone has about one-half the personnel and budget of the Canadian Forces:
......
The Canadian Coast Guard (which is a civilian--see end of this post--not an armed military/enforcement organization like the USCG) has by comparison very roughly similar resources to the USCG:
...

Planned Spending
2010-11 2011-12 2012-13
Financial Resources ($ millions) 732.6 788.9 779.6
Human Resources (FTEs) 4,838 4,838 4,838

...
It should be noted that the CCG and USCG do have similar roles such as search and rescue (though the USCG also provides the marine aerial component, done by the CF here), assisting navigation, icebreaking and environmental protection (e.g. oil spills). On the other hand the CCG plays a large role in fisheries enforcement/management that the USCG does not.

Try the comparison to the New York City Police Force.

There's an eye-opener.
