MacKay's spin

I'm watching Peter MacKay on CBC Newsworld as I type this.

Shorter version? "Conservatives have starved the Canadian Forces less than Liberals starved the Canadian Forces, so everyone should be grateful that we suck less than the other guys did."

There's a proud moment. /sarc

Newsflash for the MND: if you don't give the soldiers enough resources to do the job you've asked of them, the degree to which you've underfunded them is somewhat moot.

I wouldn't have liked it, but I would have had a bit more respect for MacKay if he'd said this instead: "Look, in a perfect world, the defence budget isn't what anyone associated with the department would like. But the reality is that the Government of Canada needs to tighten its belt, and that includes DND. CF members have proven time and again over the years that they're superbly adept at making do with what they have. Our department will find a way to make it work."

I guess that level of honesty is too much to ask for.
