Taliban's Lies o' the Month, November 2009

It’s that time again, folks!

How many Canadians did the Taliban claim to kill in November? 51

How many were killed? 0

Since October 2008, they say they’ve killed 511 Canadians. Since then, Canada has announced 36 names as having fallen.

That’s 14 to 1.

More here (PDF summary at non-terrorist site).

Keep enjoying the lies!

I understand why you might post this, but I really think its of little value.

Especially the emphasis on the ratio. I think its generally understood that the Taliban use propaganda. The magnitude of the lie hardly seems relevant.

No one in Canada seriously believes this stuff, or believes that the Taliban are above lying. Of all the crimes they have committed against the people of Afghanistan, fabricating their propaganda is way, way down the list.

A NATO assessment of atrocities the Taliban commit each month might open some eyes.

The monthly Taliban propaganda release always reminds me of our guys singing the Taliban Soldier Song

I'd disagree, Agwho: concrete illustrations of the magnitude of the Taliban's lies are useful. E specially on this site, read by many journos and their researchers. If nothing else, it might turn their heads a couple of degrees in how they seek "balance" in their stories.

Personally, I like having ready access to rebuttal material when someone says 'the Taliban claim...'. "Yeah, well they also claim they've killed 500 Canadians."

I might say that they also claim woman shouldn't be educated, children can be used as living bombs, and that hijacking planes and flying them into buildings full of civilians is just.

But yeah, I take your point.

I suppose I just think their actions discredit them in a way that even the most outrageous, blatant lie would not.
