Canada declares war, nobody notices

For the first time, seventy years ago today. More from Jack Granatstein (the crown was indeed divisible). Newfoundland had already been at war with Germany for a week.

Update thought: Except for Mr Granatstein's article, this significant event in our history (constitutionally and consequentially) has been almost completely ignored by our media. Compare with the British media's attention to their declaration of war, September 3, 1939. No wonder so many think we are a "peacekeeping" nation.

Upperdate: Terry Glavin on the war of his "fierce Irish republican" father who walked "down the high street in the uniform of the enemy". Good man.

Uppestdate: From Paul at Celestial Junk:

That's because the media is occupied with Ignatieff, Taliban Jack and the traitorous BQ. Besides, the left has been quietly rewriting history for years. Soon, it'll be hard to tell we were ever involved in either world wars. But we'll all have heard the FLQ Manifesto at an event that enjoys federal funding.
