It would seem the sniping record still stands

A headline in the Daily Express (via Darcey):
SCOTS SNIPER KILLS TALIBAN LEADER WITH LONGEST SHOT
Now check the range here by a member of the Canadian Army:
One shot, one kill
Much more detail here. On the other hand can you imagine the Canadian government allowing this to be printed (from first link)?
...
Cpl Reynolds, who has killed 32 Taliban fighters, said: “I was quite proud of that shot. It is the longest recorded kill in Afghanistan. I am going to use that fact as a chat-up line in the pub when I get back home.”..

maybe this young Scot just got confused when he converted from feet to meters.

I mean, how do you miss a half mile of distance.

"It would seem the sniping record still stands" - Indeed it does. As no doubt so does the gratitude of all the many US Army soldiers whose lives Cpl. Rob Furlong and the other Canadian Army snipers saved in Operation Anaconda in Af-stan in 2002.

Some Brit papers from time to time have been guilty of war reporting with "if they ain't Brit, they don't count, or exist" syndrome. Sort of reminiscent of the Globe & Mail's "lonely Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan", as written about by Mark in his "Not Lonely in Afghanistan" thread in June. There's been no lack of incidences of really deficient American MSM reporting about Iraq and/or Af-stan, as well.

(BTW, nevertheless, high fives and well done to Black Watch Corp. Chris Reynolds! I'm sure we all hope his stated intent to use this, ahem, "longest shot" as his new pub pick-up line works well for him. :-)
