Bu-bye Black
The NDP Defence Critic post is being passed on, as Dawn Black moves to provincial politics. I'll echo David Akin's thoughts on the departure of Ms. Black: I disagree seventeen different ways to Sunday with Dawn Black on just about every issue under the sun, including many military ones. But she was an effective critic. And I have no doubt she cares about the men and women of the CF:
That doesn't mean she always knew what she was talking about, but she tried.
So, who's the new defence critic going to be? Some guy named Jack Harris. He's a labour lawyer. 'Nuff said.
Actually, one more thing needs to be said: Canada needs people who know what they're doing on military matters not only in government, but also in opposition. The fact that there's so little bench strength on this file in ANY of our political parties is cause for concern.
Black said she'll be spending her last day working on legislation to help soldiers returning home with post-traumatic stress disorder.
