More on defence contracts

After listening to CAW President Ken Lewenza, NDP Leader Jack Layton and Liberal MP John McCallum hold court on the military truck contract earlier this week, I'm expecting them to recommend that CAW Local 2215 turn down this work, which should rightfully belong to workers in Norway.

While they're at it, they should also decline any and all current and future work on the American Navy's P3 Orions.

For the record, I counted 68 jobs listed for IMP in Nova Scotia, 16 for Quebec, 4 for Ontario, 4 for New Brunswick and 3 for Newfoundland.
The reason IMP got the Norwegian contract?

Earlier this year, the Canadian government's announced the purchase of seventeen Lockheed Martin C-130J Hercules aircraft for the Canadian Forces. The Canadian governments Industrial Benefits program, which is a standard requirement associated with major procurement contracts, provides that an equivalent dollar amount value be directed to Canadian industry. The Lockheed Martin / IMP partnership helped IMP secure the new contract and will partially satisfy Lockheed Martin’s regional industrial benefits obligations to Canada.

Brilliant !

The cheap politics played out by Laydown Jacko & the CAW makes for easy headlines but obscures the truth.

Do what is best for the troops, not the CAW pension fund and President's pay cheque.

Great! Lockheed can now give out gift certificates in the offset at Mcdonalds.

We are talking about Canada not just the troops in isolation.
