I second the motion.
Many, many heartfelt thanks.

My heartfelt thanks also!
Just had a not entirely idle thought. Maybe we need a joint national holiday for both our Countries, half way between Canada Day and the Fourth of July.
We could call it "America-Canada Day" or "Continental Freedom Day".
This would be to commemorate Canadian-American friendship and acknowledge what a magnificent accomplishment our two Countries have achieved: our continent-wide liberty, prosperity. From the Yukon to the Florida Keys; from California to Newfoundland - 330 million free, secure and prosperous peoples.
Dave,
Somehow I don't think Lawrence Martin (and quite a few others) would approve!

Forget Lawrence Martin! Find me one American who would move Independence Day from the 4th of July and I'll eat my hat.
Now, having a lot of joint celebrations and maybe a SUPER long weekend? Sure! Sounds great. Moving either Independence Day or Canada Day away from the historical dates they're meant to commemorate??? NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN. And more because of American sensibilities than Canadian, I suspect.
Lord Kitchener's Own,
Maybe I wasn't clear. My whimsical suggestion wasn't to replace either Canada Day or the Fourth of July. It was to have another holiday, a shared holiday, to commemorate the friendship between our Nations and the great achievements of liberty and prosperity that both our great Nations have achieved.
(I'd even drink Canadian beer on that occasion-but damned if I'll eat poutine! Might as well inject Super Glue into your arteries as eat that stuff! I'll stick with my healthy food: deep dish pizza with extra cheese and pepperoni. :-)
