"When will the government allow our infantry soldiers to do the job they have trained for?"

An Aussie journalist, formerly a soldier, thinks the non-special forces Diggers in Afstan should be allowed by their government to fight like the Canadians (nice post, Mr Pugliese).

hmmmm . . . shades of October and November 1918 and the final push to end WW1 . . . the Aussies leading on one side of the road to Amiens, the Canucks on the other. Then on to Mons.


They were great Allies then and in Korea. Afghanistan will be no different.

Yes, they were, Fred. In both World Wars and in Korea, the Australian Soldier (or Sailor or Airman) was a man to be reckoned with. But now Australians have elected a Labour Government with values and policies that Canada's NDP or America's Hussein Obama Democrats would be comfortable.

Soldiers of Western Democracies, however brave and skilled, can only do what their civilian leaders order them to do.

The moral to the Western citizen electorates is be careful what you wish (or vote) for, you might get it. Along with all present and future consequences...
