Putting Afstan together again

A thoughtful article by Col. (ret'd) Mike Capstick, first commander of Canada's Strategic Advisory Team in Kabul) (note his views on so-called "signature" aid projects):
The war will be won in Kabul

The front lines of Kandahar are where Canadian blood is being shed, but we must also do more to support the fragile Afghan government
Update: An equally thoughful piece by Sen. Colin Kenny:
Weapons of mass construction
But of course our media have to dig up the dirt--supposed wastefulness--in their "gotcha" obsession:
Committee racks up $3m travel bill
Probe into security, defence may be most costly Senate inquiry ever
In my view the Senate Committee on National Security and Defence is the one part of our Parliament that actually does valuable work. So what if it costs real money? Better than MPs junketing off to warmer climes during winter.
