Faites vos jeux on dead Canadians; lose your bet

Further to Chris Taylor's post:

The poll results as of 2000 Eastern Time (sorry, can't do the link):
How high will the final Canadian death toll be in Afghanistan?

100 15%
150 20%
200 24%
500 41%

Total Votes for this Question: 1150
Well, we've had 70 fatalities in the last almost 20 months since we've been at Kandahar (check the list at the right). That's three and a half dead a month (not taking into account the small number of fatalities before we went to Kandahar).

Now if you do the math, if those fatality rates continue without significant change, 41% of those responding to the poll think things for the Canadian Forces in Afghanistan will continue as they now are for another ten years (120 months). Idiots. Innumerates.

Let's start a poll for every long weekend and guess how many drivers will be killed on highways in Canada.

Makes more sense - a typical long weekend kills 50 - 60 people in the country. A bad long weekend kills 70 - 80.

Puts six years in Afghanistan into some perspective

How about "The Torch" starting a pool. Readers could bet on the number of MSM journalists that will croak in the next, say, 12 months.

Second thought that might be dangerous - someone might try to rig the outcome.
