Generally speaking

An interesting topic at Milnet.ca on the state of the U.S. Army's general officers (based on a couple of recent articles, one by Lt. Col. Paul Yingling, USA)--with comparisons to the Canadian Army:

Fascinating article, Mark. Good find!

I am hard-pressed to think of any CDS from the last few decades who could not be criticised in similar terms. de Chastelain, Baril and Henault don't get my vote of confidence.

Hillier's been a breath of fresh air, but he's as atypical a CDS as one can get. I'm sure our future brass will be even better, since many of them will have seen the consequences of combat duty and underfunding from the 90s to the present day.

One never knows:

New Commander for Canada's Air Force

Soldiers return home from Afghanistan

I've heard Gen. Watt speak and he knocked my socks off.
