Proud father creates tribute to Canada's war heroes
After losing his son in Afghanistan, Raynald Bouthillier felt nothing less than a grand gesture would be a fitting tribute to the young soldier.
Trooper Jack Bouthillier's beaming face is now part of a wraparound mural on one of the fleet trucks in his father's transport company, dedicated to all the soldiers in Afghanistan. Desert scenes of soldiers, tanks and helicopters adorn the vehicle.
It's something his son, who was killed March 20, would have loved, he said.
"Jack was very, very pleased with everything me and his mom were doing to support him," Bouthillier said from his hometown of Hearst, Ont.
"So we said, `If Jack was pleased with that support, we're going to give an homage to all the guys who did that job and lost their lives.'"
On the back of the cab is a list of Canadian soldiers killed in Afghanistan. Bouthillier said he will continue to add names.
"Every one of them until the war in Afghanistan is done," he said. "We really have to do something to show those guys that even if we're not there with them we're thinking of them and we're supporting them no matter what."
The truck is driven by a former soldier. "From what he told me ... a lot of people beep their horns and give him the thumbs (up) and show support," Bouthillier said.
Bouthillier said he wanted to show he still believes in what his son was doing...
