Maritime Forces Pacific news release:
Four Ships Depart Esqimalt on Exercise Trident Fury

Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) Calgary; HMCS Regina; HMCS Edmonton and HMCS Whitehorse will depart Esquimalt Harbour on Monday, May 4 starting at 8:30 a.m. for Exercise Trident Fury.

Exercise Trident Fury provides more than 1,000 participants of the Canadian Forces and United States Navy an opportunity to exercise full spectrum warfare training. Ships and aircraft will conduct live surface and air weapons firings to challenge their ability to perform real-time operations in a coalition setting.

The primary focus of Trident Fury is to conduct the Operations Room Officer Course Sea Assessment. These students have just finished an intense year of classroom and simulator training to prepare them to fight a warship in today’s complex, highly technical, multi-threat environment. Students on the Navy’s Information Management Directors’ Course will also conduct their sea assessment phase during the exercise.

Exercise Trident Fury 2009 will include participation from the four Pacific Fleet warships, as well as from the United States Navy, the USS Shoup, an Arleigh Burke Class guided missile destroyer.

Participating aircraft include CH-124 Sea King helicopters from 443 Squadron based in Patricia Bay, B.C., CP-140 Aurora Maritime Patrol Aircraft, from 407 Squadron based in Comox B.C. and CF-18 Hornets from 409 Tactical Fighter Squadron based in Cold Lake, Alta
