White paper vs. blank cheque

From The Torch blog, a comparison of the Defence White Paper from Australia’s new Labour government, and last year’s Canada First Defence Strategy thingie from the Harper government. I know you’ll be amazed to learn the Australians did a more thorough job of things.

But our government's promise is no blank cheque (though the rationale for the cheque is pretty blank), it's a defined amount of future funding--that may never come through--that is not of that much real value given possible inflation.
