Afstan: Terry Glavin continues to report for duty

A hat trick:
Poor Denise Savoie (Apparently It's All Donald Rumsfeld's Fault)
Audio here on CBC's "As It Happens". Ms Savoie says "You can't fight for human rights with guns." We didn't fight WW II for human rights as such, but boy were they improved in many places by our enemies' defeat. There's lots more hooey from Ms Savoie. Or, as Mr Glavin nicely puts it, "delusion".

Thanks for noticing, Torchists. Torchites? Torch carriers? Torch bearers? Whatever name you go by, your leadership on these questions has been invaluable.

Fred: I wonder if we can think of any great struggle for human rights that was not won with guns, or at least the threat of guns. From the French Revolution to the US Civil Rights movement (backed by the US National Guard), I cab't think of one.

Terry . . . couldn't agree more.

Guns, spears whatever. Good men with weapons is the only method of removing the bad guys and keeping them at bay. I like seeing cops in my neighbourhood too. Same thing.

Si vis pacem, para bellum.

Worked then, still does.

I believe it was President Eisenhower who said it was time the world realized that nothing is ever settled by the use of force.

Savoie knows that you can restore order and impose discipline with force, but human and civil rights and respect for them is a matter for the pen not the sword.
