This from the party that thought the Sea Kings could go another fifteen years

VW at The Phantom Observer asks a most pertinent question...

Here’s a question for you: how old should an aircraft be before it should be replaced?

In the case of a car, you have two answers: until the car wears out, or until the costs of maintaining it (things like insurance, brake and tire replacement, parts, rustproofing, etc.) become more expensive than the car’s resale value. You normally hit that point after at least seven years, normally around 10 to 15 years.

In the case of a military aircraft, things get a bit more complicated, because not only do you spend money on keeping the airframe from rusting out or otherwise becoming useless, as well as avionics and capacity upgrades, but you also have to keep asking the question: what are we using this kite for?

...and then he explains why Denis Coderre doesn't seem to care about the answer.
