Change of Command

David Akin has an interesting post at the CTV Politics blog on CDS Hillier reaching the end of his three year term.

Will the government extend him or replace him?

This bit from LGen Natynczyk's official bio might stir a lot of controversy from the opposition (remember Hillier also had the Fort Hood job--but no Iraq baggage):

"LGen Natynczyk attended the U.S. Army War College and was subsequently appointed Deputy Commanding General, III Corps and Fort Hood. In January 2004, he deployed with III Corps to Baghdad, Iraq, serving first as the Deputy Director of Strategy, Policy and Plans and subsequently as the Deputy Commanding General of the Multi-National Corps (Iraq)."

hmmmmmmmmmm . . . back to back zipperheads ??

Possible.

But the Air force & Navy folks have reason to believe they can get a kick at the top job in their rotation, to say nothing of the Infanteers & Arty kids who also aspire to the CDS chair.

I always look at pieces like that with a grain of salt. There are many possibilities that could be at work here. One is certainly that the government is floating a trial ballon to see what the reaction would be. Hopefully, if that's the case, they heard the ballon pop REALLY loudly.
