BZ Mayor Kelly

Mayors for Peace a dubious distinction
Kelly correctly steers clear of no-nukes pledge for Port of Halifax

Charles Moore
The Daily News

I salute Mayor Peter Kelly for taking a principled stand as mayor of the city that's home to Canada's largest naval base - resisting agitation from peace activists to join the international "Mayors For Peace" campaign for nuclear-weapons abolition.

Kelly explained: "We want to make sure we don't bring embarrassment to the naval operations or the armed forces community. They are, as you know, doing the best that they can across the world to bring help and support to countries going through unfortunate times ... We want to show our support for our armed forces, which is very important to me and to our community."
Also heartening to see Esquimalt/Victoria not listed.

An excellent column by Charles Moore.

This is yet another useless boondoggle for city politicians to waste time and money on.

Thankfully my city isn't on the list (yet) saving me from the urge to berate the mayor and council.
