Unfiltered

From Windsor Star/Canwest reporter Doug Schmidt's blog, Outside the Wire:
When Cpl. Sebastien Beaulieu's girlfriend first said she wanted a baby, "I gave her a cat."

When their relationship further matured, she again asked for a baby: "I bought her a dog."

This May, the 23-year-old machine gunner goes home for a brief leave after months of providing protection to other Canadians trying to help Afghanistan rebuild deep inside Taliban turf. This time, his Quebec City girlfriend won't even have to ask.
"Yes, we'll have a baby," says Beaulieu, breaking out in a joyous grin in the back of an armoured LAV III.

War will do that to a man — break down his will and leave him with a smile.
I'm enjoying Schmidt's blog. He offers a different perspective on many issues and events happening in Afghanistan. No editor to filter things or write attention grabbing headlines. Just the pure gritty stories as he sees them.

Invaluable.
