Let's get this squared away

I have no experience working to a journalistic deadline, and I'm the type that would prefer to get it right later than wrong sooner, so I don't really understand the CBC's incorrect account of the latest incident involving the CF in Kandahar:

A suicide bomber attacked a Canadian military convoy Tuesday west of Kandahar, but no soldiers were injured.

Not quite. Here's what I've been told: two Canadian soldiers received minor injuries when their convoy was attacked by a suicide vehicle bomber on their way back to base after a mission last night at about noon local time. The blast knocked the windshield of their vehicle in, but neither soldier needed medevac.

The soldiers got lucky this time - but as with most things in life, the harder you work, the luckier you get. Equipment, training, and discipline keep the risks to a minimum.

I'm in agreement with the troops quoted in the CanWest piece:

"When will these guys realize that they're just hurting themselves every time they explode bombs that kill other Afghans?" said one soldier, on patrol west of Kandahar city.

"It's not like they are doing any good. These guys are just pure evil."
