Afstan: Leopards in theatre

Video, here and here, reminds one of another war. 'Twould be nice if those types engaged this time.

Plus the return of the Vikings et al.

Update: More on the Leopards from the Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians) (via SDA--just giving credit, Cameron!).

Thanks for more links.

Though the last one was a classic example of the cheap political point scoring that I'm so sick of.

Well, Cam, you get what you pay for around here.

Really? I was thinking links to information as well thought out, well argued and well presented as the rest of the blog.

Instead I got ignorant, generalizing, incorrect, political hackery.

Tell me again why I would bother to come here instead of going to an American site where that is the norm?

Cam, we make every effort to keep the politicizing to a minimum at this site. Since all of us have fairly strong political opinions, that's quite the effort, believe me. In fact, you'll notice that none of us even have links up to our own personal blogs in the sidebar - that's deliberate. We take the issue pretty seriously, since none of us wanted to turn the site into yet another echo-chamber. I think we've done a damn good job of that, and I resent your implication that we haven't.

FYI, Mark and I actually discussed this offline before he even put the post up, and decided that since he found ALL the videos over at CJunk's place, a link to that site was in order even though the content was distinctly political. I stand by that decision.

But hey, if even linking to something that offends your tender sensibilities is knotting your knickers so tightly, then yes, by all means find an American blog that talks exclusively about the CF - good luck with that.

If you get to bitch about the free content we take time out of our busy schedules to put up we put up around here, we're certainly entitled to bitch about your touchiness. Take a valium or bugger off, your call.

Yes, you have done an amazing job, and that's why this kind of shit is so glaring, and counter to what you're doing here.

"FYI, Mark and I actually discussed this offline before he even put the post up, and decided that since he found ALL the videos over at CJunk's place, a link to that site was in order even though the content was distinctly political. I stand by that decision." And I appreciate that a lot, this kind of information mitigates my reaction greatly.

"But hey, if even linking to something that offends your tender sensibilities is knotting your knickers so tightly, then yes, by all means find an American blog that talks exclusively about the CF - good luck with that." The bit about the CF? Funny, the other bit? Not so much.

Here's my problem. My grandfather? NDP his whole life, and a unionize worker. Bits of him were left in Germany during WW1, He died at Ste Anne's veterans hospital. My Uncle Doug? Armored Cars in WW2, never voted anything but LPC (and he was leftish within that context). My Uncle Richard? Drew a bunch of the maps for various ops in WW2. Did a bunch of the sketching for that endeavor not so much on the right side of the line. Another "progressive" (and an artist to boot... god, a double strike). He got buried in a military funeral.

Every time someone makes an idiotic comment about the left it belittles what they did, it marginalizes my personal beliefs about the military and it's uses (and I make all my family look like goose stepping fascists), it ignores the demographic and historical reality that says that not only right wing/conservative Canadians have served. And while I appreciate (more than I can even begin to express) the wonderful and amazing job you guys do here (though I'm still waiting for someone to point me to a link that explains in Dumb Civilian™ how that shell works) I'd like to think that I can complain about it.

Frankly, links like that cheapen what you do here.

But sure, if your tender sensibilities are offended by my opinion and it would make you happier not to have to hear it, I'll bugger off.

Why, Cam? My grandfather has been a loyal LPC voter and volunteer for decades, and he also spent enough time in Lancasters over Europe in WWII that it haunts him to this day. That doesn't mean I don't tell him his voting habits are crazy. That doesn't mean I hold back on what the LPC has done to the Canadian military in my own personal discussions with him. I honour his service, as he well knows, but that doesn't mean I agree with his politics.

And you do realize that you're objecting HERE to something that was said SOMEWHERE ELSE?

At some point everyone who blogs is going to get to the point that they realize that just about every rule and law that applies to newspapers and the rest of the dread MSM applies to them.

And you could hot link to the videos.

At some point - to mirror your words, Cam - you're going to realize there's very little law on the topic of hotlinking, and that even if there was, we didn't break any laws. All we did was tread on your expectations. Which tells me you're more interested in arguing with me than anything else.

This isn't rabble.ca, Cam, and I'm not interested in endless sniping back and forth with you any longer on a topic that is, quite frankly, peripheral to the entire point of this blog. I've allowed you to divert my attention long enough, and now I'm done.

My point was you could have posted the link directly to the videos.

And wtf is rabble.ca?

Anyway, I'm sorry my opinion diverted you.

I'll keep it to myself from now on.

Cameron: I must thank Babbling for the vigourous defence. I suppose the reason I did not put up direct links to the other videos was simple laziness. Plus by direct linking to the Canadian ones I was giving them priority.

If you honestly are unaware of rabble.ca I envy you your sheltered life! Stay pure.

And your pride in your forbears is admirable and well placed. But if you had seen Jack Layton in QP today on Afstan you might agree that some of today's lefties are not as of those of yesteryear.

Mr Layton is no Desmond Morton.

jJack Layton needs a smack in the fucking head (pardon).

I voted for his Dad, were that he was half the politician his father was.

Many people on the left today, most of them squeeky wheels who get a lot of media oil, are myopic idiots. What I guess really gets me going is how people who decry the MSM as being biased against their right leaning views some how imagine that everyone of the left is getting great representation out of the same media.

Mark people mention it, usually in an attempt to dismiss what I'm saying. I'm going to guess it's a nutbar left site. I used to go to extremist sites (I was on freedominion.ca for a while) but my wife and my CPC voting cousin convinced me that there was no point in hanging out with nuts.

I've sometimes imagined that as a rock song. Suggestions as to by whom?
