A reason for increased DND secrecy

This article (full text subscribers only) in the Ottawa Citizen deals with some truly silly increased censorship; but in one case--if the reporting is accurate--there is good reason. A letter sent to the Citizen but not published:
In his story, "DND secrecy 'is becoming a farce'" (Oct. 5), David Pugliese suggests that censorship by the Department of National Defence of information related to the Canada-U.S. First Special Service Force ("Devil's Brigade") is unwarranted. But he then writes that it was a "unit that earned numerous accolades in fighting in the late 1940s."

Since World War II ended in 1945, and both Canada and the U.S. were officially at peace in the late 1940's, it is no wonder the Department wishes to keep the unit's activities during that period secret.
Another story on the subject.

I'm stumped what does recent actions in Af'stan have to do with the Devil's Brigade? Obviously nothing, it's a bad peice of journalism.
