Should there be a Commons debate on Afstan? Why do we have an Army?
An interesting comments thread at Army.ca.
And another thread based on a post in which a recently-retired soldier who served in Afstan writes:
All this squabbeling about pulling our troops out of Afghanistan because men are dieing is nonsense. IT'S A BLOODY FRIGGING WAR PEOPLE. THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS IN A WAR. We're there so now let's finish the job that we went there to do.

Gilles Duceppe was kind enough to remind me why I liked him. On either Mike Duffy or QP (I forget & it's late) he said "no debate with a vote on new deployments - we voted in 2001 (or 02) FOR deployment and we stand with that. New deployments to New Commitments (different countries) we would hold Mr. Harper to his commitment for a vote.
We WOULD like to debate whether our troops are appropriately armed. THAT is worth a "take note" debate."
Which I take to mean that if there is no debate, there will be questions in QP. If the CPC actually ANSWER said questions, end of the story.
Imagine if we pulled out of the other wars we've been in due to soldier deaths...
